Finding "Normal"

Finding Your Own “Normal”
Presented by Kim “Rooster” Rossiter, USMC,
President, Ainsley’s Angels of America

Weekly Word Episodes

Disability can bring many stressors to life - one of which is often related to what society views as “normal” and an inability to participate in “normal” activities. Many families splinter; the natural instinct to flee is very well documented. Kim Rossiter – better known as Rooster – faced this situation seven years ago when his daughter Ainsley was diagnosed with a rare, degenerative and terminal condition. He'll share his family's personal story of fight instead of flight, and how they discovered a way to bring "normal" back to their lives. With attendees he’ll explore ideas about how to live in the NOW, find YOUR “normal”, and develop ways to strengthen the bonds within YOUR family and circle of friends.

Dream BIG...ANYTHING is Possible

Presented by Shaun Evans, DPT
Vice President of Education, Ainsley's Angels of America Foundation

Shaun's Highlight Video

As the father of a child with a disability, Shaun has a great deal of experience in being told what his son’s and his family’s limitations might be. He realizes that all too often we are told what we can’t do or shouldn’t try instead of setting our sights on what we CAN achieve or what IS possible. Shaun and his family recognized that although they may have to adapt, modify and accommodate to overcome obstacles, their goal is to live life to the fullest and to dream BIG. During the summer of 2015, they set out to make one of those dreams into a reality. Despite being born with cerebral palsy, Shaun’s oldest son, Shamus, had a dream about running across the USA. His goal was to start with his toes in one ocean and end with his toes in the ocean on the other coast…all in one summer! 3200 miles in 60 days! Be inspired to succeed as Shaun shares his family’s story of extreme persistence, love, and togetherness.
